With bright classrooms, enrichment studios, and safe indoor-outdoor play areas, learning feels joyful and purposeful. Small group sizes and meaningful routines create a steady rhythm that supports each child’s growth.

Shanti Cooper
School Director
What is your educational background, and what inspired you to pursue a career in early childhood education?
The study of people has always been an interest of mine. After earning a degree in sociology and a minor in family and child studies, I knew I wanted to work with families. I earned a graduate degree in early childhood administration and have always been passionate about working with young children. What inspired me to pursue this field is seeing how much of a difference those early years make in shaping a child’s confidence, curiosity, and love for learning. I wanted to be a part of that foundation.
How long have you been with TGS, and what excites you most about being part of this school community?
I started at TGS in 2022 as a lead teacher in the Twos program. What excites me most is being part of a team that values not just academics, but the whole child…socially, emotionally, and developmentally. I love that this community feels like a family where everyone works together to support children and parents.
What do you love most about working with children during their early years of development?
I love watching children reach their milestones…whether it’s learning to express themselves, making a new friend, or discovering something for the first time! I love their excitement! I find it rewarding to play a role in helping them grow into confident, capable learners.
What is the most rewarding part of your day at TGS?
The hugs I receive from the little people as they enter the school in the mornings!
Share the name of a teacher who inspired you and describe how they influenced your approach to education.
One teacher who inspired me was one of my high school teachers, Ms. Ghibaudy. She often modeled patience, creativity, and the importance of seeing each student as an individual. Ironically, I had her child in my classroom here at TGS!!
Why do you believe quality early childhood education is important for a child’s development?
Quality early childhood education lays the foundation for a child’s lifelong learning and success. It not only supports academic skills but also teaches social-emotional development, problem solving, and independence. These early experiences give children confidence and tools they’ll carry with them forever.
How would you comfort and reassure new parents who may feel nervous about leaving their child in someone else’s care for the first time?
I would assure them by letting them know that their child is safe, cared for, and valued. I’d take time to build trust by communicating openly, sharing updates, and making sure they feel involved in their child’s day. I also remind parents that it’s natural to feel nervous and that we are here to partner with them every step of the way. I’d also mention the open-door policy, as it gives parents comfort knowing they can visit their little one whenever they want.
How do you partner with parents to support their child’s growth and learning journey?
I partner with parents through consistent communication, sharing progress, and celebrating their child’s achievements together. I also listen to their insights, because they know their child best. By working as a team, we can provide consistency between school and home, which helps the child feel supported and thrive.
Keishla Vega
Assistant Director
For Keishla, the heart of The Gardner School of Lincoln Park lies in the connections she builds each day. “I love seeing a child’s face light up when they see me behind the front desk,” she says. Those little moments of joy and recognition remind her how powerful relationships can be. Keishla believes in taking time for heart-to-heart conversations with families, helping to create the warm, trusting atmosphere that makes the school feel like home.
Since starting at The Gardner School as a Floater, then serving as a Pre-K Teacher in 2022, Keishla has brought her passion for connection and community into her role as Assistant Director. She loves being part of a neighborhood where everyone knows one another by name and values those genuine relationships.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. “When a student leaves with a smile on their face, that’s what it’s all about,” she says.
